We’re committed to your eyesight
As part of our commitment to offering you the highest standard of eye care, our practices at Oadby and Wigston are amongst the first opticians in the area to offer patients the optomap® Retinal Scan.
Why have an optomap retinal image?
Optomap® ultra-wide digital retinal imaging captures more than 80% of your retina in one panoramic image. Traditional methods typically reveal only 10-12% of your retina at one time. Early signs of disease can show in the periphery of the retina and go undetected with traditional methods. An appointment costs just £29.
In less than 0.25 seconds we can virtually see the entire retina displayed on a screen. The digital image will then be stored on file allowing us to compare and monitor your retina each time you visit us for a scan.
What are the benefits of optomap retinal imaging?
- Quick & painless
- Nothing touches the eye
- No need for drops to dilate the pupil
- Suitable for people of all ages, including children
Optomap® images are immediately available on screen. You can see your own retina in a unique 3D sequence and your optometrist can explain this to you. Images are saved and can be used for comparison at your next eye exam.
What is the retina?
The retina is the delicate tissue at the back of the eye which sends a picture to your brain enabling you to see.
Why check your retina?
The retina is the only place in the body where blood vessels can be seen directly. This means that in addition to eye conditions (eg AMD, glaucoma, retinal tears/detachments) other diseases such as diabetes, hypertension and stroke can also be seen in the retina. Early detection means successful treatments can be given and reduces the risk to your sight and health.
It’s important for your optometrist to check your retina to make sure it is healthy. Any problems can be detected early and successful treatments given to protect your sight. Even if you are experiencing no symptoms, it is still vital to get your retina checked.
